Newsletter
Let’s talk about books. Specifically, the key ideas, killer passages, and grand takeaways from what we’re reading.
I’d love to have you join over 1,600 readers getting the big ideas from whatever I’m reading at the moment, and thoughts on making the most of midlife.
Professional
For the last two years, I’ve served as the director of student success at David Perell’s Write of Passage, helping students achieve their writing teams and building and training the team of mentors and editors that carry out each cohort.
In other roles, I’ve built relationships as a copywriter, a digital agency content strategist, a corporate staff writer, an affiliate marketing director, and as a writing mentor, including:
Building a $65M content partnership program at PODS with a great team.
Developing local and national communication strategies to help franchisees, partners, and media serve and expand their customer bases.
Essays
Two of my favorite essays on writing include “Jerry vs. James: Avoid these writing mistakes to persuade like a pro,” and “Fourteen writing tactics to learn from Winston Churchill.”
Reading
My book notes page tracks the books I read and the reviews and summaries I write. Some of the more popular summaries and reviews I’ve written include:
The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry, by John Mark Comer
The Ride of a Lifetime, by Bob Iger
The Library Book, by Susan Orlean
I read to become a better writer. To better understand writing techniques and to crawl inside lives and perspectives I never otherwise could.
Fitness
I am my own fitness experiment. Currently, I’m into strength training, bike sprints, and walking. My favorite fitness essays include:
